Description

Music Appreciation for the Elementary Grades introduces students to seven different composers: Bach, Handle, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Paganini and Schubert. Designed to accompany the sold-separately “Great Musicians” biographies written by Opal Wheeler, we will read the assigned chapters in class with some homework to be done at home.

Each unit has comprehension questions, mapwork, writing exercises, and other worksheets are included throughout; other pages provide lessons for children to read on the composer’s character qualities, interesting facts, and other biographical, historical, geographical, or musical information. Hands-on activities are also provided. As students learn about each composer in turn, they’ll also learn to compare music from different periods, identify music examples, discuss the lives and times of different composers, research and identify different instruments, identify major periods or genres in music, and more.

This will be a year-long course to cover all seven composers.
